So, I’m starting the new year right by coming up with a new design for the next room I want to redecorate, even though it was only decorated less than 2 years ago, naturally.
I know, I sound crazy! And I would completely agree with my partner, mum, friends and anyone else saying ‘the bedroom is lovely you don’t need to change it!’. It is lovely (you can see a tour of it here), and it’s not to say that I don’t love the wallpaper, or the bedside tables anymore etc. The only way I can describe it is that it doesn’t quite have the right feeling. When I walk into our bedroom I want to feel cosy, warm and comforted, and unfortunately it just feels a bit cold and slightly mismatched really. I was never really 100% happy when the room was completed and felt like it was missing something or didn’t really feel cohesive. So, this year I really want to rectify this and make a few changes to achieve the feel long for.
The main components – bed, wardrobe, drawers, chandelier – of the room are going to stay. But I want to add easy MDF faux panelling around the walls, paint them all a lovely warm grey shade, get some smaller bedside tables, new mirror over the fireplace and armchair, which I have lusted over for years! I want it to look right out of The White Company catalogue and get a lovely thick carpet laid down that our feet will sink right into. Painted floorboards look lovely but do make a room colder and obviously isn’t the nicest thing to walk on first thing in the morning. They are also quite difficult to keep looking clean as the paint chips and the smallest hairs etc show up! I will also paint our stunning wardrobe and take bed dressing more seriously investing in beautiful throws and cushions for the bed. I suppose in essence, the room will be a neutral, warm, french rococo style with a modern White Company twist.
Unfortunately there is no definite guarantees of when this will be happening, fingers crossed it will be sometime this year, but you can’t blame a gal for doing some forward planning . So, watch this space!
